C. Write your 3 paragraphs (the body).

Here is an example for the character Darzee:

---Darzee is a black and brown tailorbird, with a yellow beak. He is really feathery, and he flies around the garden. He spends most of his time in his nest in the tree.

---This tailorbird likes to sing and dance after times of great emotion. For example, he sang after Rikki killed Nag and Nagaina. He also sang when he thought Rikki was dead.

---Darzee is happy-go-lucky most of the time, but he can be obnoxious to other animals. One time, he sang instead of helping Rikki. He can be feather-brained and unreliable. For instance, when Rikki told him to distract Nagina by pretending to have a broken wing, he cowered.

D. Write Your Introduction

Tips

Introduction- lures the reader into your character description

1. Ask a question
How could someone so colorful and talkative be so lazy and unreliable? In the story, RTT by RK, one character, Darzee, fits this description. He is entertaining and frustrating at the same time.

2. Begin with a sound
Hisssssssss! Beware of the cobras! This is the danger faced by Rikki and his friends in the story by Rudyard Kipling. One character stands out in this tale of survival. He is Darzee, the tailorbird.

3. Use a quote from story
"Ding-dong the snake is gone…. Hi -ho! We watched him go!" These are the lyrics of Darzee, the foolish tailorbird, who sang in the story Riki-Tikki-Tavi written by Rudyard Kipling.

4. Start with a bit of conversation from story (see textbook)

5. Give an order

6. Say something funny, scary or shocking

Conclusion sums up the points made in the body. It satisfies the reader.

1. End with a feeling.
2. Invite the reader to
take action.
3. End with an exaggeration.
4. End with something funny.
5. End with something inspirational.
