You will be creating your own country. A poster will be provided for you. Follow directions carefully. Use pencil to design. You can color the project once you are satisfied with your designs.

1. Draw the Mercator Projection using right angles for the lines of latitude and longitude.
2. Establish a set of cardinal directions with a compass rose, showing directions on the perimeter of your map.
3. Draw the shape of your country on the map.
4. Create a scale for your map. Insert it at the bottom right side of your poster.
5. Make a 1st key for the following: desert, mountains, river, lake, oceans, cities, capital, major road or highway, railroad, bridge.
6. Draw a mountain range at the top of your country (leave a gap somewhere in the range).
7. Make a river flow through the mountain range.
8. Draw two cities, making one a port
--Create two rivers to connect to the first river
--Connect the two cities by railway
9. Draw a lake
10. Insert a desert on your map.
11. Make the capital city
--Draw a road connecting the capital to two other cities.
12. Make a 2nd key showing elevation by color.
13. Insert an isthmus anywhere within your country.
14. Make sure the cartographer of your country is written across the bottom of your map.
15. On the back, describe the climate and population of your country.
